Wingerworth Parish Council maintains the play equipment on Deer Park and Chartwell Avenue in Wingerworth.  They and a local group with whom they work in conjunction with, Friends of Wingerworth Park, a formally constituted group which was formed in 2015 had highlighted the need to update the current play equipment in Deer Park due to Health and Safety issues and to install play equipment on Chartwell Avenue which had been dismantled and the park left with no equipment for a length of time.

The Parish Council applied for and were successful in obtaining two LEADER grants to update and modernise the Deerpark play equipment and lay 'play safe' surfaces aroundthe site and to install play equipment for older children on the Chartwell Avenue site.
