Who can apply for grant funding?
Business people & entrepreneurs (either unemployed people, new businesses, or existing businesses employing less than 10 people) in all business sectors, but particularly the following: tourism, accommodation, visitor attractions and food & drink.
From 1st January 2010, grants of up to 50% are available unless there are exceptional circumstances and there is justification of need and delivery of scheme outputs. The Programme Officer will discuss this with you during the Expression of Interest stage.
Examples may include:

Promotion for rural businesses

Co-operative and individual support to develop local food and drink producers

Improvement of premises which can be developed for micro-enterprise facilities and craft workshops within former redundant buildings, especially farm buildings and buildings of rural significance.

Creation and use of renewable energy in an area previously known for its energy production.

Helping to develop businesses to enhance their tourism offer such as craft producers, tea shops, cafes etc and those that support key attractions such as Chesterfield Canal (in the North East Derbyshire area only).

Delivering clear economic benefits job creation/new businesses, enhancing the tourism offer.

Enabling existing businesses to develop employment potential through expansion.

Training activities to assist new and existing small businesses.
Eligible Activities may include:

Retailing, manufacturing or service industries, including self-made products, recreation, equestrian and creative industries

Environmental services, including the traditional trades required to maintain and enhance the landscape

Renewable energy (planting support and forestry processing activity eligible under other measures will not be eligible under this measure)
Eligible Costs may include:

grant aid towards the costs of capital investment

start-up revenue costs
-
market research and feasibility studies
-
marketing support, product development, branding and design costs

technical support to help new businesses and social enterprises become established and to help existing businesses and social enterprises to consolidate and expand.
Outputs: depending on the level of grant requested, we will expect eligible grant recipients to achieve some of the following.
